Team Snacks Pace Guide

Slow Your Roll (10-12 mph average)

Our signature ride! This pace is casual for most experienced cyclists but could be more taxing for those who are just getting into riding. To ride at this average pace, you’ll likely be moving around 12-15 mph on flatter or downhill terrain but may drop to 8-10 mph on rolling uphill sections. This is a great pace to start at if you’re unsure of how far and fast you are able to go. These rides are typically 10-20 miles around town, and they are always no-drop (meaning we will never leave you behind). There will ALWAYS be snack stops.

Slow Your Roll to Batch Kolaches

Jelly Roll (12-14 mph average)

This is a step up from our SYR rides, so that we can go a little further without taking too much time. Experienced cyclists will typically be able to keep this average easily with a steady effort, but it may be a good workout for someone who is newer to riding or who is coming back from a hiatus. To ride at this average pace, you’ll likely be moving 14-17 mph on flatter or downhill terrain but may drop to 10-12 mph on rolling uphill sections. For beginner cyclists, build up confidence at the SYR pace, and then see how you do at this pace! These rides are typically 15-35 miles, and they are always no-drop. There will ALWAYS be snack stops.

STOP, DROP, AND ROLL (14-16 mph average)

This is typically the fastest pace that we ride on official Snacks rides (though faster pop-up rides could happen, and we can refer you to many other groups around town who regularly host rides with a 16+ mph average!). This is our club’s reach pace, meaning that if you are newer to cycling or coming back from a hiatus, this will likely be a big effort. To ride at this average pace, you’ll likely be moving 16-20 mph on flatter or downhill terrain but may drop to 11-13 mph on rolling uphill sections. These rides are typically 30-50 miles, and they are voluntary drop only. This means that if you start the ride and feel that the pace is too fast for you, you can voluntarily drop before we get too far out of town. However, if you stay and ride with us, we will not drop you! Sometimes trying to keep up with a faster pace even if you are a tad slower is a good way to increase the speed you’re able to go. Talk with the ride leaders at the beginning of the ride if you think this will be a reach pace for you, and we can help to support you in the best ways that we can! Also, there will ALWAYS be snack stops.

**This pace guide is based on road routes with flat sections and rolling hills. For other types of rides, these average paces may not apply. We will be sure to communicate terrain and pace expectations for rides with a high proportion of steep hills and rides where there is gravel or dirt.
