Call of the Mild 2024
More details
Call of the Mild is our annual bikepacking trip to Martindale, Texas that we've been hosting since 2017! This trip is open to people identifying as women, trans, femme or nonbinary. It’s a super fun, very social day and a great way to make friends. We have multiple options depending on how you’re feeling that weekend: 50ish miles each way, 20ish miles each way, just camping, and just hanging out at the campsite.
The $25.00 registration fee go towards snacks, first aid, and the campsite reservation.
The long route departs from Dear Diary Coffee at 8:30am Saturday, Nov 2nd. There will be opportunities to refuel along the way to Martindale, including an extended stop in Lockhart. But, as always, plan to have plenty of water and snacks to keep you feeling strong in between stops. Our pace will be moderate. No rider is ever left behind. The short route departs from Lockhart. Participants will be invited to a Slack channel where we can chat about the trip, coordinate carpools, etc.
Shady Grove campground is our final destination, where we will set up camp and take a dip in the San Marcos river to cool off. There are plenty of trees for hammock camping and plenty of flat spaces for tents.
Campers should bring their gear for sleep under the stars as well as dinner and breakfast. We will stop at the HEB in Martindale on our way to the campsite, so you won’t have to carry all your food the whole way.
People have gone on this trip on all sorts of rigs - Touring bikes with big panniers, gravel bikes with a minimal rackless set up, tandem bikes....Almost anything can work, and if you have any questions about how to gear up to do a trip like this, just reach out via Slack, email, or Instagram, and we can help you make it happen!
